This piece is inspired by Preston Max Allen’s “Stay” and reflects the poignant themes of loss, responsibility, and growth. This is a very personal song to me, and to attempt to represent it with my own art was a difficult task as I feared I would not capture its significance. I chose to create a headpiece because the song shows how a sense of wisdom comes with growth. It can be viewed as a crown which is symbolic of
accepting new responsibilities, or it can be seen as a halo which is associated with loss and death. The beads on the headpiece are rose quartz, which commonly represents healing, love, compassion, and peace, all of which completely encapsulate this song.
“Why stay?
Knowing what life takes away
Someone might need you someday
Isn’t that worth who we are?”
