taste - necklace - october 2022

Deconstructed spun copper cup, brass round wire.

This piece is inspired by Sleeping At Last’s “Taste.” It reflects themes of recovery, rebuilding, and acceptance. This song emphasizes the process of taking broken things (broken bodies, broken relationships) and piecing them back together in a way that requires a lot of thought and precision, yet isn’t perfect. The imperfections in our lives can still be beautiful and it’s up to us to take those pieces and rearrange them in a way that shows “what matters most.”

Lyrics i was particularly inspired by:

“We only speak of a world in pieces

Let’s make a map of what matters most

Where every fracture is a running river

Leading us back to our golden coasts”

    “Like glass unshattering”

“‘Til we’re fixed from the inside”
