would that i - sculptural installation - march 2023

Brass round wire, brass sheet, gilders paste wax patina.

This piece is inspired by Hozier’s “Would That I.” It is part of a hanging mobile structure with 7 other pieces and projects a sense of nature and nostalgia. This piece focuses more on the sonic tone and imagery of the lyrics rather than a thematic interpretation found in many of my other pieces.

    Lyrics that inspired this piece:

“True that I saw her hair like the branch of a tree

Willow dancing on air before covering me

    Under garden and calicos

    Over canopy dabbled long ago”

“Long as amber of ember glows

All the wood that I’ve loved is long ago”
